MS
MS affects approximately 290 per 100,000 people in Scotland. It tends to affect people in countries further away from the equator and cases are significantly higher in Scotland and Canada. There are lots of theories around why it affects people in these countries such as lack of sunlight (low levels of vitamin D) and the ‘Viking gene’ among other theories. Treatment has moved forward a lot in recent years and people are being diagnosed earlier, starting disease modifying medication earlier and overall outcomes are improving for those who are being diagnosed now. Physiotherapy plays an important role in helping people with the symptoms associated with MS. Tone management, fatigue management, balance rehab, mobility issues, exercise therapy…..the list goes on.
