Managing an acute injury…

#staycation location (in the middle of nowhere) ❤😂

How to manage an acute injury…..? So I have been asked 5 x this week by friends, my husband and work colleagues what to do when they have jerked their back, twisted their ankle, hurt their foot playing football….. to name a few injuries. There are a few simple steps you can take to speed you on the road to recovery.

1. Take painkillers and anti inflammatories and don’t be worried about double dosing both together. The likelihood is it will only be for a couple of days until it settles.

2. Ice or heat for muscle spasm

    Ice only for swelling

3. Rest, keep it elevated preferably above heart

height if it’s an ankle, leg, arm. Some gentle

range of movement exercises will help to get

    the circulation going.

If it’s not settling or you are struggling to weight bear after a couple of days consider getting some professional advice. The advice at the moment is to speak to your GP or out of hours NHS 24 rather than presenting at A&E due to rising COVID cases again.

Top tip if you don’t have a heat pack because your on a staycation in the middle of nowhere 🙈 you can make one out of hot microwave rice, plastic  food bag and a towel. That’s what I had to do this weekend and what do you know it worked a treat his back is completely pain free 😉. Good luck!
